The 2018 changes to the Blended Retirement System (BRS) substantively altered the incentives for U.S. military retention. In this IDA presentation, we identify how those changes interact with traditional retention incentives, discuss options for counteracting any negative retention impacts and discuss the likely barriers to timely evaluation of the impacts of BRS on retention.
