In September 2020, the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE), in partnership with the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), asked the IDA Science and Technology Policy Institute (STPI) to conduct a study focused on emerging issues and needs associated with AI in the health and human services sectors. The purpose of the study was to help inform the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) about the rapidly emerging standards and policies associated with AI research and development. This document synthesizes the results from across STPI’s analyses throughout the task to identify potential options and opportunities to promote the benefits of the responsible development of AI and to mitigate existing and potential risks.
