The SD-22, Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS): A Guidebook of Best Practices for Implementing a Robust DMSMS Management Program, identifies nine resolution options for DMSMS issues, as well as an average cost for each resolution option. Program offices can use these average cost values to inform programming and budgeting when actual resolution cost values are not available. A 2014 Department of Commerce study provided the basis for these average cost figures the DMSMS community uses. An examination of the study’s raw data on DMSMS resolutions indicates at least a bi-modal distribution for one of the DMSMS resolutions, develop a new item or source. This presentation will describe an effort to: — Evaluate whether the "develop a new item or source" resolution option should be divided into one or more resolution options, and if so, define those resolution options. — Collect data on costs for the new resolution options. The results of this work will provide DMSMS management practitioners with an expanded list of resolution options to consider along with revised average cost figures for those resolution options.
