The Department of Defense, in coordination with the Department of State, provides security assistance to counterparts in other countries to help build the capacity of their military and government institutions. The goal of these programs is twofold: ensure long-term sustainment of U.S. security assistance and help security partners develop and manage their own security institutions. This issue of IDA Insights looks at IDA’s activities in support of the United States and its security partners in building the institutional capacity of African militaries.
