This summary-report covers key discussion points from a workshop, “Building Artificial Intelligence (AI) Educational Capacity Across Disciplines,” that the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) hosted in March 2025. The goal of the workshop was to gather insights on approaches to building educational capacity in this area at U.S. institutions of higher education. It was conducted as a follow-up to NSF efforts to assess the federal AI workforce, culminating in a 2024 report to Congress that identified master’s-level graduates and expertise in AI combined with fields of relevance to agency missions. Researchers at IDA’s Science and Technology Policy Institute assisted in planning and coordinating the workshop and compiled this summary.
