Position:  Image and Signal Processing Subject Matter Expert
Description

The Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) is a not-for-profit corporation that operates three Federally Funded Research and Development Centers serving the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Unified Commands and Defense Agencies in addressing important national security issues, particularly those requiring scientific and technical expertise.

Challenging career opportunities now exist in our Science and Technology Division (STD) at IDA for individuals interested in participating in critical wartime effort to automate the detection of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) using change detection techniques.

Primary Responsibilities
This person will serve as part of a larger team devoted to developing and fielding of an end-to-end solution that includes specialized sensors, a change detection workstation, and automation software. Contributes to a number of parallel automation projects, including the integration of multiple efforts into a single, user friendly capability; monitor data collection and data basing of training and test data; and conduct objective performance evaluations of one or more approaches. A high level of direct interaction with the government is anticipated to quickly achieve a prototype capability and to adapt to changing developments from the field. Willingness to travel to contractor facilities, test sites, and military user facilities is essential. The position requires strong technical skills as well as the ability to speak and write effectively, think analytically, and work independently.
Requirements
  • 5 years experience in the development and/or implementation of image and signal processing techniques
  • Detailed knowledge of signal processing/ATR algorithms using EO and IR imagery, knowledge of techniques for image rectification and mosaicing, familiarity with the software development process and systems engineering, and good interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in managing and interacting with a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, scientists and engineers to solve complex problems as well as some programmatic experience in the field of image and signal processing.
