Position:  Counter-Terrorism Analyst (SAFETY Act)
Description

The Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) is a not-for-profit corporation that operates three Federally Funded Research and Development Centers serving the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Unified Commands and Defense Agencies in addressing important national security issues, particularly those requiring scientific and technical expertise.

IDA is working with the Department of Homeland Security to implement the Supporting Anti-Terrorism by Fostering Effective Technology Act (SAFETY Act). Challenging career opportunities now exist working in the area of technology analysis for counter-terrorism solutions. The positions involve working with experts from government and academia to provide in-depth analyses of emerging anti-terrorism technologies.

Primary Responsibilities

We desire individuals with various areas of expertise, including: CBRNE detection; cyber security; and services related to counter-terrorism (e.g., system engineering, security services and threat assessments). Highly qualified individuals are sought, particularly self-starting professionals, who can:

  • Provide analysis of terrorism countermeasures in areas such as effectiveness and technology (product or service) maturity;
  • Lead technical evaluations being performed by peers;
  • Plan and organize tasks effectively, both as an individual contributor and as a team member;
  • Clearly communicate analytic results, both oral and written.
Requirements
  • Work experience with terrorism countermeasures is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform independent research.
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain necessary security clearances.

We have 2 openings:

  • PhD in physical science or equivalent (10+ years) work experience in relevant field.
  • MS in physical science or equivalent (5+ years) work experience in relevant field.
